The story of Virunga Homestay begins with family. Growing up beneath the Virunga volcanoes, we witnessed travelers arrive from every corner of the world in search of mountain gorillas and unforgettable landscapes.

Yet many visitors left without ever experiencing the people whose lives are woven into these hills.

They saw Rwanda.

But they did not always meet Rwanda.

We believed travel could be more meaningful. We imagined a place where guests could sit around a family table, learn local traditions, share stories, and experience daily life through genuine human connection.

What started as a simple family initiative became Virunga Homestay. Today, we continue to welcome travelers not as customers, but as guests.

Every meal shared, every conversation exchanged, and every experience enjoyed contributes to a deeper understanding of the Virunga region and the people who call it home.

Our greatest hope is that visitors leave with more than photographs. We hope they leave with memories, friendships, and a lasting connection to Rwanda.
